When is a name just a name...
Another ad agency picks a quirky name, Red Brick Road. Makes a change from all the ABCDEFG and Associate names though.

A new photos every day!
How chuffed was I when I found the Found photography site on the interweb! Adrian Hanft gives a great tutorial on how to build your own pinhole camera using Lego!

Superbrothers
Nice illustration style from this canadian illustrator Craig D. Adams mixing harsh pixel edged figures with the grainy texture and untidiness of old film grain or worn carpet. A nice balance of an off-kilter style with not too much attention on the grotesque, which illustrators tend to lean to so often.
A nice video to for Jim Guthrie too useing the same interesting illustration style. Guthrie's other videos have a nice soft style too them too.
those canadians should really toughen up and eat more meat or something...

Happy Birthday
On January 24 1984 the first Apple Macintosh went on sale!
Comprising of a crisp one-bit monochrome, 9" display with a resolution of 512 by 342 pixels, establishing the desktop publishing standard of 72 PPI, a 'massive' 128k of RAM and a 400k Floppy drive.
The brochure can be viewed here.
Apple promoted the launch of the Mac with this TV ad themed around George Orwell's 1984 which aired during the half time break of the Super Bowl.
The Macitosh was the first commercially successful personal computer to use a graphical user interface (GUI) and mouse instead of the then-standard command line interface.
Needless to say, its sucess revolutionised the design industry.

"A message repeated a thousand times becomes the truth"
Propagandizing Propaganda an interview with Aleksandar Macasev by Steven Heller.
The Joseph Goebbels(TM) project, the brainchild of Aleksandar Macasev, is a multimedia attack on the information and disinformation glut that uses the infamous Nazi minister of propaganda and enlightenment.
Macasev had been researching the nature of mass communication and contemporary media culture as he had worked for a number of advertising agencies, Macasev reached the conclusion that "the truth has become totally irrelevant in the present state of mass-media culture".
More information on Macasev's work can be found on Black Pixel.
Heller's most recent book is "Merz to Emigre and Beyond: Avant Garde Magazine Design of the Twentieth Century" (Phaidon Press) and "The Education of a Comics Artist" co-edited with Michael Dooley (Allworth Press). His current books are "The Education of a Graphic Designer"and (with Veronique Vienner) "The Education of an Art Director" (Allworth Press).

Paparazzi Illustration
The Gallery of the absurd 'illustrates the sordid world of gossip and slander while trying to keep a straight face'. An excellent site which combines the world of Celebrity glamour with character! Victims include Britanny Spears, Cameron Diaz, Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise and Paris Hilton to name but a few.

L'Institut du Monde Arabe
This is a cultural institute in the heart of Paris, an amazing building. The window designs are based on the detailed arabic patterns seen all across the middle-east. The shutters on the windows have sensors that control their opening and closing, making the building consistantly in a soft ambient light setting.

The Gates "Ecology House"
while on the look out for a new property this popped up on my searches, Bill Gate's House. Built for a steal at $97 million. A little out of my price range. Still a nice idea an ecological house.
the debate still goes on, was the house designed on macintosh?

Welcome All
So as discussed before here is the noticeboard area for all at dcoy to post any ideas, photographs, books, thoughts, images or anything which you feel you want to share.
The first thing needed for the blog is a name. For the moment it is called "dcoy noticeboard". So this is a call to all to put in any suggestions. The initial idea started of with "Nature Table" or "Idea Creche". So you can guess the kinda direction needed.
Something that suggests a place to be open, show things you find intersting or something that gives a small (or big) flash of inspiration.
To add a post to the blog simply email dcoydesign.noticeboard@blogger.com Your subject field in your email will be the title of the post.
